Somerset Passenger Solutions is first and foremost a people business with our colleagues and clients at the heart of everything we do. We bring together an exceptional mix of people to provide specialist passenger transport solutions and we are dedicated to delivering excellence in all that we do.
We pride ourselves on fantastic customer service, versatility, innovation and reliability, helping our customers to get to the right place at the right time. Our success is driven by our team who ensure that our clients have the best possible experience.
Somerset Passenger Solutions was formed in 2016 as a joint venture between First Group and JJP Holdings, to serve the passenger transport needs of the largest construction project in Europe – Hinkley Point C. In October 2021, First Bus completed purchase to take full control of SPS.
Since 2016, we have seen huge growth. We began with 40 employees and 8 vehicles increasing to almost 500 employees and a growing fleet of vehicles which will increase further as our projects evolve and diversify. It makes us one of the fastest growing businesses in the South West.
Our modern buses and coaches use advanced tracking and telematics to ensure we deliver the best possible service for clients and customers.
Our partnership with Hinkley Point C
We are proud of our partnership with EDF Energy to serve the passenger transport needs of Hinkley Point C, the largest construction project in Europe and a vital part of reducing the UK’s carbon emissions.
Our contribution to the building of Hinkley Point C cannot be understated. We are the only transport provider for almost all people who go to the construction site either for work or to visit.
We transport thousands of clients to and from the construction site every day, working 24/7 to ensure that construction remains on schedule. Our service is the lifeline linking staff living across the region to their place of work and delivering them safely, securely and promptly.
Over time, and through the support of our client EDF, our shareholders investment and talented people, we have built an agile and client centred transport operation. This ensures that the standards necessary to build a major part of the UK’s energy needs, are also provided in the transport solution.
The success of this partnership has enabled our reach to expand into other regional and national opportunities as we look to diversity our operations and continue building our success.
Although the Hinkley Point C project is expected to continue until the late 2020s, we are looking to the future to leave a legacy in the local area, as well as expand into other construction projects across the country, including the UK’s next nuclear project, Sizewell C. We will create a group of highly-trained, motivated and employable staff in the South West ready for the next step in their careers.
We are looking forward to using the knowledge, experience and dedication to our people and customers in other parts of the UK in our pursuit of being the “The leading choice for specialist passenger transportation”.
