Somerset Passenger Solutions was formed in 2016 as a joint venture between First Group and JJP Holdings, to serve the passenger transport needs of the largest construction project in Europe – Hinkley Point C.  In October 2021, First Bus completed purchase to take full control of SPS.  

Our partnership

Our contribution to the building of Hinkley Point C cannot be understated. We are the only transport provider for almost all people who go to the construction site either for work or to visit. We provide the entire passenger transportation serving the whole of Somerset including a wide-range of routes in areas such as Minehead, Weston-Super-Mare, Taunton & Bristol.

Serving the passenger needs of HPC

We transport thousands of clients to and from the construction site every day, working around the clock to ensure that construction remains on schedule and keeping transport disruption and environmental impact to a minimum for local residents.

Our service is the lifeline linking staff living across the region to their place of work and delivering them safely, securely and promptly. During non-peak times vehicles are repositioned, fuelled, maintained, cleaned or used for route familiarisation. Quieter periods are also used for driver training and recruitment.

Success

Since 2016, we have seen huge growth. We began with 40 employees and 8 vehicles increasing to almost 500 employees today and a growing fleet of vehicles which will increase further as our projects evolve and diversify. It makes us one of the fastest growing businesses in the South West.

The success of this partnership has enabled our reach to expand into other regional and national opportunities as we look to diversity our operations and continue building our success.

Firstly, on behalf of SPS, thank you for your continued support during the last 2 years.

As of February 2022, the following will apply on our all of our HPC bus services:

  • Face masks will continue to be mandatory for all passengers
  • Driver cab screens will remain
  • Windows on all buses will be left permanently open to assist with ventilation and air flow
  • Cab hand sanitisers will remain
  • Our cleaning programme includes a new cleaning product to further enhance hygiene of our vehicles
