Tell us a bit about yourself and your role

I have worked in a variety of roles and industries before joining SPS including working at the Bank of England, being an IT Project Manager, a manager of a Citizen’s Advice Bureau and a period as a self-employed Will Writer, mortgage adviser and HR Consultant.

Training to become a bus driver with SPS might not have appeared the obvious next career move! It was a step deliberately taken to give me a skill to use, in my advancing years.

I have had huge variety in my work in my time at SPS. I have worked closely alongside every team at SPS including Engineering, Health & Safety, HR as well as the Training, Scheduling and Operational Teams using some of the experience gained prior to joining SPS.

I have very recently joined the Customer Services Team. My initial focus will be on the many back office systems used in Customer Services and managing private hire and site tours of the HPC site.

What are some of your career highlights?

My career highlight at SPS is passing the PCV driving test and meeting such a wide variety of really interesting people and passengers. In terms of job satisfaction, SPS has exceeded all my expectations!

What does life at SPS mean to you?

I am very happy living in rural Somerset and the pleasant commute to work means I have time to tend my beloved allotment. However – when the sun is shining it’s off to the beach for my wife and I! I’m not sure how many years my old bones will allow me to ride those North Devon Coast waves!
